Many people were already very familiar with Matt Smith when he was cast in the role of Daemon Targaryen in House of the Dragon. At the time, the 40-year-old actor was best known for playing the Eleventh Doctor in BBC’s Doctor Who, as well as Prince Philip in The Crown on Netflix. But despite his talent already being widely recognized — he was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2018 — his part in the Game of Thrones prequel might prove to be career-defining.

Matt Smith and Emma Laird spark dating rumors

The latest report on Smith’s dating life came earlier this month when the actor was spotted sharing some PDA with actress Emma Laird. Sharing a laugh outside a pub in London together, photos of the pair hanging out and even kissing were posted by the Daily Mail. Laird is best known for playing Iris in The Mayor of Kingstown and more recently portrayed the character Annabelle in The Crowded Room.

The stars’ outing gained attention because of their large age gap; Laird is 24 years old while Smith is 40. At this time, we don’t know if the two are actually in a relationship or were just having a bit of fun during a night out. What we do know, however, is that they will star in an upcoming thriller together called A Haunting in Venice.

Prior to the most recent rumors, word on the street was that Smith used to date a woman named Caroline Brady. According to Pop Sugar, Brady isn’t an actor but rather a businesswoman, working as the vice president of fundamental equity impact at a company called BlackRock.

Caroline Brady is the sister of actress Millie Brady, who you might’ve seen in shows like The Last Kingdom, The Queen’s Gambit, and Surface. Though we don’t know how Smith and his former rumored girlfriend met, he did act alongside Millie Brady in the 2016 film Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. So perhaps the actress introduced them.

Who has Matt Smith dated?

Unlike Smith’s more recent rumored relationships, some of his past flings have been pretty public. His most highly-publicized relationship was with actress Lily James, who played Pamela Anderson in the Hulu series Pam & Tommy last year. Funnily enough, she also appeared in the movie Pride and Prejudice and Zombies with Smith and Brady.

As reported by Us Weekly, Smith and James began dating in 2014 and split in 2019 before briefly reuniting in 2020. They were photographed together several times and posed on the red carpet together more than once. Before James, Smith dated models Mayana Moura and Daisy Lowe.

Smith seems to be a pretty private guy — he’s not on social media — but we don’t blame fans for wanting to learn the ins and outs of his dating life.
