So…Wonder Woman 3 is still happening? That according to Gal Gadot, who spoke to ComicBook.com before the SAG-AFTRA strike started up.

The DC Cinematic Universe has gone through a lot of shake-ups lately. Basically, word is that Warner Bros. Discovery is going to scrap everything that’s been built since 2013’s Man of Steel and start over, with James Gunn and Peter Safran in charge of developing a new DCU. We already know that there’s a new guy playing Superman. Henry Cavill will not return as the Man of Steel, and presumably most of the old guard will leave with him, including Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman.

But maybe not? Was all that a smokescreen? Are the women of Themyscira really returning to the big screen? Here’s what Gadot had to say:

Is Wonder Woman 3 still happening?

“I love portraying Wonder Woman,” Gadot said. “It’s so close to and dear to my heart. From what I heard from James and from Peter is that we’re gonna develop a Wonder Woman 3 together.”

Hmm…are you, though?

If this is the case, I don’t think the director of the first two Wonder Woman movies — Patty Jenkins — will be attached, since it was reported that she had exited the project soon after Gunn and Safran took over all things DC. Then again, last year Jenkins tweeted that she did not walk away and that she was “open to considering anything,” so mixed messages abound.

I think keeping Gadot would be confusing and a bit unfair considering that Cavill is being replaced. We’ll probably also have another Batman, so why would Wonder Woman be played by the same person? If the goal is to start anew, why would Safran and Gunn keep someone from the past regime around?

Maybe there are bigger plans at play, but I fail to see them. I know Gadot made a cameo appearance in The Flash movie, so perhaps that was the studio’s way of letting us know she’s not gone just yet.

Time will reveal what the end goal here is, but keep your eyes and ears peeled; Wonder Woman 3 may be headed to a theatre near you…in a few years…maybe?

Next. Rumor: Matt Smith was offered the role of Reed Richards in Fantastic Four. dark
