Henry Cavill’s 20 best moments as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher

10. The Battle at Kaer Morhen
The Witcher season 2 culminates in a battle at the witcher’s keep of Kaer Morhen, where Ciri, possessed by an otherworldly being called the Deathless Mother, has murdered a bunch of witchers and opened a portal to another world. Geralt and Yennefer arrive there just in time to keep Ciri from murdering Vesemir, but saving her from Voleth Meir proves to be a far more complicated process.
Through Ciri, the Deathless Mother brings a foreign strain of basilisk into the keep. The huge CGI beasties prove to be more than a match for many of the witchers, mauling people left and right as Geralt and Yen struggle to heal Ciri. Adding to their problems is the fact that Vesemir has decided that saving Ciri’s life isn’t worth the amount of witchers who are being slain. Geralt’s old mentor tries to kill Ciri himself, so Geralt must hold him off while trying to free Ciri from the grip of the Deathless Mother.
The battle at Kaer Morhen isn’t my favorite part of the series; Yennefer cutting her wrists to save Ciri, a large group of witchers standing no chance against two basilisk, Vesemir being so fickle with his choices…the sequence is a bit weird. But Cavill shines as Geralt, whether he’s refusing to give up on Cirilla or mixing it up in combat.
At one point, a large white basilisk comes out of the portal and attacks Geralt directly. He looks spectacular as he slices through its maw before knocking it off the ramparts of the castle. The battle of Kaer Morhen may not be the best moment in The Witcher, but it’s crucial for Geralt.
