4. Season 6, “The Red Woman”

The season 6 premiere, titled “The Red Woman,” thrusts audiences back into the action in Westeros. Still reeling from the staggering final scene of the previous season, the audience was eager to see whether Jon Snow was in fact dead for good, his life abruptly snuffed out by  his own treacherous brothers. This question drives the episode forward. It’s an electrifying rollercoaster ride of intrigue, suspense and emotion.

As the episode reaches its chilling climax, a stunning revelation stopped hearts round the world: Melisandre, the enigmatic priestess of R’hllor, known for her bewitching beauty and fiery resolve, was unmasked. Melisandre was much more than she appeared to be, her ageless guise hiding an ancient reality. This shocking reveal, expertly crafted and powerfully delivered, earns “The Red Woman” a respectable place on our list.

3. Season 2, “The North Remembers”

Season 2 of Game of Thrones begins with a breathtaking scene: the image of a fiery red comet tearing across the sky set the tone for what was to come, capturing the attention of viewers with its ominous beauty.

But “The North Remembers” isn’t just a visual spectacle; it brings a lot of intensity and paces it well, ensuring that every minute is engaging. Its most striking sequence comes right at the end, when we see Robert Baratheon’s illegitimate children get brutally slaughtered one by one. “Winter Is Coming” is the beginning of our journey through Westeros. We’re introduced to a variety of rich characters, each with a thread to be woven into the narrative fabric of this expansive story.

From the start, there’s a grimness to Game of Thrones underlined by the tagline (and best website name ever), “winter is coming.” That prophecy quickly proves true by the end of the episode, when Jaime Lannister pushes the young Bran Stark out a window. Right then and there, we knew we were watching a series that would break the rules. “Winter Is Coming” is a momentous premiere that will go down in the annals of television history.
