Dragon-sized crater on the set of House of the Dragon season 2?
By Dan Selcke
Filming continues on the set of House of the Dragon season 2. Last we checked in, the Lannister army was riding to war, intent on fighting for King Aegon II Targaryen against his half-sister Rhaenyra. But in what battle are they fighting?
We might now have a better idea. The show is currently filming scenes in the county of Surrey, in southern England. According to Wiki of Thrones, the Twitter account @UnBoxPHD — which has been posting lots of images from set as of late — featured a couple images of what looks like a large crater in the forest:
What are we looking at? Beware SPOILERS ahead!
Will dragons die in House of the Dragon season 2?
While it’s impossible to be sure, this looks like an impact crater of some kind, like something huge fell out of the sky and crashed into the ground while taking out trees on its way down. Do you see where I’m going with this?
Of course, I’m working off foreknowledge here. House of the Dragon is based on George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood, and in Fire & Blood, there’s an event called the Battle of Rook’s Rest, where several dragons will fight each other in the sky. (Last chance to avoid SPOILERS!) Specifically, King Aegon Targaryen and his brother Aemond will ride their dragons Sunfyre and Vhagar into battle against Rhaenys Targaryen and her dragon Meraxes. Meraxes will die and fall out of the air, crushing Rhaenys beneath her.
My bet is that this is what we’re looking at here. We’ve also seen behind-the-scenes images of Aegon’s soldiers dragging a huge object through the streets of King’s Landing. We think it’s the head of Meraxes.
So this will be a cheery sequence to look forward to. House of the Dragon season 2 is due out on HBO and Max sometime in 2024.
