A new rumor is spreading that the second season of Amazon Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will feature a battle so epic it cannot be contained in a single episode.

According to Lord of the Rings scoop site Fellowship of Fans, the second season of The Rings of Power will see a huge battle take place between the elves of Eregion and a horde of orcs led by Adar, the twisted elf played by Sam Hazeldine (recast from Game of Thrones vet Joseph Mawle in season 1). The rumor goes that multiple important characters will be present for this clash, including the elven archer Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdova) and the half-elven diplomat Elrond (Robert Arramayo). It’s also possible that Arondir, Elrond and Adar will share scenes together, and may even have a three-way duel.

Of course, as with any rumor of this nature, it’s best to not get too invested until we get some sort of official confirmation from Amazon itself.

The Rings of Power season 2 is still on track for 2024 premiere

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is one of the rare shows which wasn’t impacted too dramatically by the Hollywood writers and actors strikes. The writers strike hit when The Rings of Power was less than three weeks away from wrapping filming. Showrunners Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne stepped away from the series when the strike started, but since it was so close to finished, production continued without them.

That means that as of this writing, The Rings of Power is presumably in post-production. We don’t know whether the absence of McKay and Payne will slow that down at all, but for now it seems likely that the show’s second season will still premiere in 2024 as planned.
