Watch the trailer for Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon
By Daniel Roman
Netflix has just dropped a brand new trailer for Rebel Moon, Zack Snyder’s new science fiction epic coming to the streaming service later this year. Rebel Moon began as a Star Wars movie that Snyder pitched to Lucasfilm; after the studio passed, the project kept growing until it became its own beast over at Netflix.
Now we can finally get a proper feel for what to expect in Rebel Moon, which looks pretty epic:
Rebel Moon release date confirmed
This trailer for Rebel Moon dials in to Snyder’s trademark visual style, with gritty action scenes, gruesome creatures, and a brooding color palette. However, it also looks a little brighter than some of the director’s other works, which is a nice shift.
As a fan of creature movies, I have to point out how many cool monsters are on display here, from a woman with giant spider legs to a gryphon and more. The sense of wonder is strong.
To go along with the trailer, Netflix has also released an official plot synopsis for Rebel Moon:
"When a peaceful colony on the edge of a galaxy finds itself threatened by the armies of a tyrannical ruling force, Kora (Sofia Boutella), a mysterious stranger living among the villagers, becomes their best hope for survival. Tasked with finding trained fighters who will unite with her in making an impossible stand against the Mother World, Kora assembles a small band of warriors — outsiders, insurgents, peasants and orphans of war from different worlds who share a common need for redemption and revenge. As the shadow of an entire Realm bears down on the unlikeliest of moons, a battle over the fate of a galaxy is waged, and in the process, a new army of heroes is formed."
Rebel Moon has a pretty stellar cast. In addition to Boutella, the films star Cleopatra Coleman, Charlie Huunam, Cary Elwes, Djimon Hounsou, Corey Stoll, Jena Malone, the voice of Anthony Hopkins and more. It also features both Ed Skrien and Michiel Huisman, meaning you can see both Daario Naharis actors from Game of Thrones in the same movie. Now that sounds like an event.
Rebel Moon will be releasing in two installments. Part 1: A Child of Fire hits Netflix on December 22, 2023. Part 2: The Scargiver will follow on April 19, 2024.
