Who is the Ahsoka premiere dedicated to? (Ahsoka For Our Friend Ray explained)
By WiC Staff
The first two episodes of Ahsoka are here, beginning a new chapter for Star Wars on Disney+. Ahsoka is a fascinating show because it features a ton of characters fro the animated show Star Wars Rebels, now making their live-action debuts. It’s early days still for the show, but we thought it got off to an extremely promising start.
The premiere of Ahsoka ends with a dedication which reads “For our friend, Ray.” If you wondered who that was referring to, we have the details.
Ahsoka For Our Friend Ray
The person the Ahsoka premiere is dedicated to is actor Ray Stevenson, who plays Baylan Skoll in the series. Stevenson died on May 21, 2023 at the age of 58. As of this writing his cause of death has not been disclosed publicly. But whatever the cause, its suddenness shocked fans of the actor’s work.
Stevenson is a veteran actor who has appeared in numerous shows and movies. He played Othere in season 6 of Vikings, the Russian mobster Isaak Sirko in season 7 of Dexter, and Blackbeard in seasons 3 and 4 of Black Sails. He also starred in The Punisher: War Zone as the Punisher, as well as appearing in Marvel’s Thor movies and many others. In addition to his live-action performances, Stevenson also provided his voice talents for both Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. His performance in Ahsoka is one of the final things he filmed before passing away.
While it is beyond sad to know that Stevenson is no longer with us, it was a wonderful touch to see Ahsoka pay him tribute in this way. Already he is leaving his mark on the series as Baylan Skoll, a character who shifts between imposing strength and surprising tenderness.
We look forward to seeing the rest of his performance on the series. Ahsoka drops new episodes Tuesday nights on Disney+.
