Meet Selene (Natasha O’Keeffe) in new clip from The Wheel of Time season 2
By Dan Selcke
The second season of The Wheel of Time is almost upon us, and Amazon is releasing plenty of previews to whet our appetites. We’ve seen the first scene of the season, a clip where Nynaeve trains as an Aes Sedai, and now, we’re getting introduced to an important new character: Selene, played by Natasha O’Keeffe.
In the second Wheel of Time book, The Great Hunt, Rand meets Selene, a woman from the city of Cairhien, and they travel together for a while. In the show, Selene will be an innkeeper in the city of Cairhien. In The Great Hunt, Rand meets Selene while he’s traveling with other people, including his friend Perrin. In season 2 of The Wheel of Time, he’ll be on his own as part of his self-imposed exile, which is closer to what he does in the third book, The Dragon Reborn. Basically, when it comes to Rand’s story, it looks like the TV show will combine bits from Books 2 and 3.
As for Selene, she and Rand form a connection. As you can see in this new clip, the two get close:
Beware SPOILERS: Who is Selene, really?
It ends up there’s more to Selene than meets the eye. If you don’t want the story spoiled for you, best stop reading now.
If Rand running into a beautiful, elegant woman who tells him everything he needs to hear at that moment seems a little too good to be true, that’s because it is. While Selene poses as an ordinary woman, she’s actually (pause for dramatic effect) one of the Forsaken, a group of channelers loyal to the Dark One who have been alive for hundreds of years. Her real name is Lanfear, and her goal is to tempt Rand — who is actually the incredibly powerful Dragon Reborn — over to the dark side.
Will Rand give in? We’ll find out when Amazon drops the first three episodes of The Wheel of Time season 2 on September 1.
