Amazon Prime Video really hit the mark with The Boys, a subversive superhero show based on the comic of the same name written by Garth Ennis. It’s brutal, gritty and outrageously gruesome… and the story is pretty good, too. The series has already had one spinoff, an animated anthology series called Diabolical. And later this year its first live-action spinoff, Gen V, will hit the small screen.
Gen V follows a group of Supes in a college run by Vaught International, where they each battle it out to become the newest member of the Seven. With so much at stake, tensions run high, and blood will no doubt be spilled.
Meet the characters of Gen V!
The group of college students entering Godolkin University School of Crimefighting each have a particular set of superpowers, from blood bending to classic super strength. Entertainment Weekly has the lowdown:
- Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair) has the ability to control and manipulate blood, much like what bloodbenders can do in Avatar: The Last Airbender, as fans have already pointed out. She is determined to become the first Black woman on the Seven.
- Emma Meyer (Lizze Broadway) is Marie’s roommate. She’s basically a wannabe Ant-Man. Her power allows her to shrink herself, resulting in the nickname Little Cricket.
- Andre Anderson (Chance Perdomo) is the son of acclaimed hero Polarity. Determined to follow in his father’s footsteps, he his the power to control and manipulate magnetism. Perhaps a twist on Magneto?
- Luke Riordan (Patrick Schwarzenegger) is Golden Boy. He’s basically the series’ version of the Human Torch.
- Jordan Li (London Thor and Derek Luh) has one of the most unique superpowers in the show. Li has the power to transition between male and female. But not only that; when Li is male, they are indestructible; when female, they can fire energy blasts from their mind.
- Sam (Asa Germann) is your not-so-typical hero with super strength. Sure, he’s incredibly powerful, but he also suffers from hallucinations, which make him a danger to even those closest to him.

These superpowers are unique enough to get me invested even before seeing the show. I’m particularly interested in Jordan Li, who has a power we’ve never seen before. Also, check out this new poster which shows off all the new Supes in one place!
Gen V premieres September 29 on Amazon Prime Video!
