Let’s dreamcast Max’s new Harry Potter TV show
Arthur Darvill as…Remus Lupin
This guy just looks like Remus Lupin. He has the hair, he has the face and he has the chops. His notable roles include Rip Hunter in Legends of Tomorrow and Rory Williams in Doctor Who. I think if given the role of Remus Lupin, Darvill would be able to deliver an outstanding performance.
Lupin is an important part of Harry’s journey to being a capable wizard, and acts as a father figure during the boy’s third year. He is also the first Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher to actually teach useful spells to Harry and his classmates, including the iconic Patronus Charm.
Orlando Bloom as…Sirius Black
Harry’s godfather, Sirius Black is one of the most tragic characters in literature. Framed by his former friend Peter Pettigrew, Sirius was falsely incarcerated in the wizard prison of Azkaban for over a decade. When he finally escapes, Black is able to convince Remus Lupin and Harry of his innocence and Harry is able to get to know his godfather, who was a dear friend to his parents.
I think Orlando Bloom is ready for this kind of role. A seasoned veteran of series like The Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean, he is certainly no stranger to major fantasy franchises. But I think his performance in the recent Amazon show Carnival Row truly showcases his ability to play Sirius Black. The rough and tumble attitude he exhibits in that show is perfect for this convicted felon, but Bloom could also engage with Black’s softer side. This is arguably the most important part of the character, as Black becomes Harry’s main father figure, which makes his untimely death in Order of the Phoenix that much more of a gut punch.
