Natalie Dormer as…Nymphadora Tonks

Nymphadora Tonks is another character I would like to see explored in more depth on the Max show. She is a young witch who’s completing her final year at Hogwarts the same year Harry begins his first. Shortly after leaving the school, Tonks got a job at the Ministry of Magic where she trains to become an Auror under the tutelage of Mad-Eye Moody. When Voldemort returns to power, Tonks joined the second Order of the Phoenix and fights to resist the dark lord’s return.

Along the way, she falls in love and has a child with fellow order member Remus Lupin. Sadly, both die during the Battle of Hogwarts, leaving their son Teddy to be looked after by Harry, who was the boy’s godfather.

I think Natalie Dormer is the perfect choice for this character, as she can pull off the spunky and courageous attitude that Tonks is known for. Dormer’s roles as Margaery Tyrell in Game of Thrones and Cressida in the Hunger Games films prove that Dormer is up for both drama and action.

Kelly Macdonald as…Professor Minerva McGonagall

Kelly Macdonald is another Harry Potter alum; she made a brief appearance as the ghost of Helena Ravenclaw in Deathly Hallows Part 2. But the Scottish actress has an impressive catalog of credits beyond that. She appeared in 56 episodes of Boardwalk Empire and starred in No Country for Old Men. By the time the Harry Potter Max show gets underway, Macdonald will be in her 50s, which only 10 years younger than Maggie Smith was when she was cast in the same role.

I think Macdonald has the chops to give us a convincing McGonagall, who is an important player in this world. She acts as Dumbledore’s second-in-command at Hogwarts as well as the school’s transfiguration professor and the head of House Gryffindor. She later joins Dumbledore’s resurrected secret society the Order of the Phoenix to help in the fight against Voldemort. Perhaps her most iconic moments come at the very end of the story when she leads the defense of the school during the Battle of Hogwarts.
