8. Who was Quaithe?

Quaithe is one of the most mysterious characters from Game of Thrones. This masked woman appeared during Daenerys Targaryen’s time in Qarth and made a couple of very accurate predictions, including the theft of her dragons and Jorah Mormont being unloyal. She also warned Jorah to not pass through Old Valyria unprotected, which he later does anyway and contracts greyscale. But we never learn who Quaithe really was.

Although she appeared in only two episodes, her unique look caught fans’ attention. She spoke in riddles and which mean any number of different things, but her identity was never revealed. She is not even mentioned after season 2, leaving pretty much everything about her shrouded in an eternal cloud of mystery.

7. Why wasn’t more fire used against the army of the dead?

While the White Walkers were made of ice and magic and could only be killed by Valyrian steel or dragonglass, the army of the dead seemed far less invincible. The wights were basically defenseless against fire, which is why dragons were key to the Battle of Winterfell in the final season. Melisandre used her powers to light up the Dothraki swords and the wooden barrier before the entrance, but one wonders why more firepower was not used during this fight. It would have made sense for a platoon to charge out with flaming torches, lit in the regular way fires generally are.

Including wildfire would have also made sense. The green flames wrecked havoc during the Battle of the Blackwater in season 2 and helped Cersei get rid of all her enemies in season 6 when she blew up the Sept of Baelor. King’s Landing may not have had any more to spare, and even if there were more, Cersei may have refused to help anyway. However, no efforts were made to procure any wildfire, which would have helped burn large swaths of the wight army at once.

6. The curious case of Daenerys Targaryen’s infertility

Up until her turn into the Mad Queen, Daenerys Targaryen seemed a very rational person who picked her allies carefully. It feels odd that she would take the word of sorceress Mirri Maz Dur, who betrays her after promising to revive Khal Drogo and causes the death of her unborn child, when it comes to her apparent infertility.

Daenerys had enough resources to consult any number of healers, both in Essos and Westeros, to confirm if she was truly able to conceive in the future. Jon Snow voiced all of our concerns when he told her not to blindly trust what she was told by a witch. It did feel like she had given up on that part of her life, and considered conquering Westeros with her three dragon children her only purpose. We had a chance to find out the truth after she got together with Jon, but we all know how that went.
