Arcane season 2 gets disappointing release date update
By Daniel Roman
Back in 2021, before hits like The Last of Us and The Super Mario Bros. Movie started shifting the conversation around video game adaptations, Netflix was already breaking ground with some of its animated series adapting beloved game properties. The two big ones were Castlevania, based on the Castlevania games, and Arcane, set in Riot Games’ League of Legends universe. Arcane was especially well-received, both for its great story and characters as well as its vivid art style.
The wait for season 2 has been a long one, but we finally have an update. The good news first: Twitter fan account League of Legends Leaks & News posted a video last week from the 2024 Video V Vision Conference where Riot Games parent company Tencent revealed that a release window has been set for Arcane! The bad news: it’s not coming out until Winter 2024, meaning sometime between October and December. If all goes according to plan, we’ll be watching Arcane season 2 next holiday season.
Arcane season 2 is coming out in Winter 2024
So Arcane season 2 will release around three years after season 1. While this might seem like a bit of a downer, that’s actually a relatively quick turn-around for an animated show as intricate as this one. The first season took a reported six years to make, so the team behind the series is moving along at a pretty good clip on season 2.
Nonetheless, it won’t make the cliffhangers any easier to endure. Arcane season 1 ended with a showdown between sisters Jinx and Vi that’s sure to have huge ramifications for Piltover. Is there any coming back from that, either for Jinx’s sanity or for the city at large?
We’ll find out in Winter 2024. On the bright side, that leaves plenty of time for a rewatch of Arcane season 1.
