Marvel delays several upcoming TV series, but at least there’s a new Loki trailer

At the moment, Marvel Studios is facing two problems: first, people are getting kind of tired of all this superhero stuff, with Disney CEO Bob Iger himself admitting that they’ve oversaturated the market. How can people be expected to keep up with multiple new Marvel movies and shows every year? For some, it’s starting to feel like homework, and no one likes homework.

Also, all the writers and actors in Hollywood are currently on strike, something Iger and his CEO cohorts could solve if they were willing to give their employees a fair deal…but we’re not holding our breath on that one.

So it doesn’t come as a huge shock that Marvel is delaying several of their upcoming Disney+ TV shows. Here’s a rundown with info from The Hollywood Reporter:

  • The second season of What If…? was originally going to come out fairly early in 2023. Now, the animated series will return around Christmas Day of this year.
  • Echo, a spinoff of the Disney+ show Hawkeye, was going to debut on November 29. It’s now been pushed back to January of 2024.
  • X-Men ’97, a reboot of the old cartoon from the ’90s, was going to premiere this fall. Now it’s scheduled for early 2024.
  • Agatha: Darkhold Diaries (that’s the latest title for the WandaVision spinoff) was going to come out this winter. It’s being pushed way back to the fall of 2023.
  • Ironheart, about an engineering student named Riri Williams who creates her own Iron Man-like suit, was supposed to come out this fall. It’s now been removed from Marvel’s schedule entirely.

Two other shows — Daredevil: Born Again and Wonder Man — have both paused production due to the strikes, so who knows when those will get release dates?

At least one show is keeping its original date: the second season of Loki, the dimension-hopping drama starring Tom Hiddleston as the God of Mischief. In fact, Marvel just dropped a new teaser trailer:

Y’know, I’ve been suffering from Marvel fatigue for a while now, but I’ll admit that this is a well-made trailer. I may check out Loki when it premieres on October 6.
