Who plays Arlong in Netflix’s live-action One Piece series?
By WiC Staff
Netflix’s new live-action adaptation of One Piece is out now, and to the great surprise of many it’s actually…pretty great? Live-action remakes of anime series don’t have a great track record — just see Netflix’s speedy cancelation of Cowboy Bebop for one of the most recent examples — but One Piece has managed to capture the charm of the manga by Eiichiro Oda while bringing it to life in a whole new medium.
That’s no small feat considering just how wacky One Piece is. We’re talking about a series where a guy made of rubber fights against a homicidal fish-man, and that’s just to start.
The fish-men play a big part in the final two episodes of the show’s first season, which adapts the East Blue arc of the manga. Their leader is a fearsome pirate who goes by the name of Arlong.
Who plays Arlong in One Piece?
In Netflix’s live-action version of One Piece, Arlong is played by McKinley Belcher III. Belcher is best known for series like We Own This City, Ozark and The Good Lord Bird.
What kind of fish is Arlong in One Piece?
One question that some fans have had after watching One Piece is exactly what type of fish Arlong is. Despite being humanoid creatures, many of the fish-men in One Piece are hybrids of specific fish species, such as Arlong’s ray henchman Kuroobi (Jandre Le Roux). Arlong is a shark fish-man. This is why he has such a ferociously powerful bite and is able to regrow his teeth.
What episode does Arlong Park arc end?
If you enjoyed watching Netflix’s live-action One Piece show, you may be curious about the anime. The first season of the live-action series covers most of the “East Blue” arc of the anime. The Arlong Park arc serves as one of the climactic set pieces of that season, spanning from Episodes 31 to 44.
You can watch both the live-action and anime versions of One Piece on Netflix.
