Filming continues on the second season of House of the Dragon, although not where we can see it; although we got an eyeful of what the cast and crew were doing for a while, they’ve now gone behind the walls of Leavesden Studios in England to shoot the rest of the season.

But information is still leaking out. For instance, fansite Redanian Intelligence — which has an excellent track record for this kind of thing — has brought us information on several minor roles being cast, including:

Anna Francolini will play Lady Mallister, from House Mallister in the Riverlands, in three different episodes.

Peter Silverleaf will play someone in House of the Dragon season 2. He played a character named Elboneno in the fifth season of Game of Thrones, in the episode “Kill the Boy,” but I no memory of who that is.

Shane Stevenson joins the cast. I can picture them as a Northerner or someone from the Riverlands.

We will visit the Vale in House of the Dragon season 2

This is perhaps the most interesting news:

  • Bill Best as a Tyroshi pirate
  • Milos Bindas as a Triarchy pirate
  • Thomas J. Jackson as a Vale sherpa
  • Jaouhar Ben Ayed as a servant

So none of these characters yet have names, but their roles tell us a few things. You may remember that in the first season of the show, Daemon Targaryen and Corlys Velaryon fought against the Triarchy, an alliance forged between the Free Cities of Tyrosh, Myr and Lys. Daemon and Corlys put them down pretty early on, but they will return in season 2, looking for revenge.

Then there’s the Vale sherpa. The Vale is a mountainous region in Westeros, and getting through it can be a challenge without a guide. In George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood, Rhaena Targaryen (Phoebe Campbell) is sent to the Vale for her own safety while war heats up further south. We’ve seen Campbell on set filming what we think is a scene set in the Vale. This casting news suggests we’re right.

Of course, we won’t know any of this for sure until House of the Dragon season 2 airs sometime in 2024.
