Many shows and movies are on pause right now due to the ongoing Hollywood labor strikes, but one of the few new fantasy shows still coming out this year is Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+.

Based on the beloved book series by Rick Riordan, Percy Jackson is a middle-grade adventure series very much in the vein of Harry Potter. It follows a young teen named Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell) who discovers that the’s a demigod descended from the Greek pantheon, whereupon he is whisked off a magical summer camp called Camp Half-Blood. There he trains with other young demigods like the satyr Grover (Aryan Simhadri) and Annabeth Chase (Leah Jeffries), the daughter of Athena.

We’re only a few months away from the release of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and the marketing materials are beginning to roll out. We’ve already seen the first trailer for the series, and now we’ve got a brand new poster:

Disney’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a “faithful adaptation” of the books

The poster shows our main hero Percy Jackson kneeling on the beach as waves crash behind him. Percy is the son of Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea. Notice the bolt of lightning streaking down from the sky in the background. The first Percy Jackson book is titled The Lightning Thief. His adventures kick off when he’s framed for the theft of Zeus’ lightning.

Two Percy Jackson movies came out back in the early 2010s starring Logan Lerman in the lead role. There were more books to adapt, but it didn’t happen. They may have been for the best, since Riordan has been able to be much more involved with the Disney+ show.

“We have been involved in the series since its inception, since the very, very earliest conversations about what a new Percy adaptation might look like, how it would be sketched out, whether it would be episodic,” Riordan told Entertainment Weekly in an interview conducted before the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. “So, I feel comfortable telling fans of the books who have been waiting — in some cases, decades — for this kind of faithful adaptation, that this is the one you’ve been waiting for. We are involved and I think you’re gonna love it.”

EW also revealed some new images from the show:

There are also some character posters:

The first season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians will run for eight episodes on Disney+. It premieres on December 20.
