Good Omens star Michael Sheen says David Tennant is “too good to be true”
By Dan Selcke
The second season of Good Omens dropped in its entirety on Amazon Prime Video this past July, and fans have been talking about it ever since. What will become of soulmates Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and Crowley (David Tennant) now that they’ve gone their separate ways? Can an angel of heaven and a devil of hell really carve out a place for themselves here on Earth?
That’s a questions readers had been asking ever since the publication of Good Omens, a novel cowritten by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, came out way back in 1990. The TV show has since gone beyond the text and started in on a new chapter for Aziraphale and Crowley. Will we will get to see how it all wraps up in season 3? That remains to be decided.
In the meantime, we can vibe off the friendship between Sheen and Tennant, which has extended offscreen; during the pandemic, the two even put together a little at-home show, resulting in some semi-viral funny exchanges:
Michael Sheen is the designated “attack dog” on the Good Omens set
Speaking on a panel at MCM London Comic Con a while back, Sheen talked about his working relationship with Sheen. “[David’s] a bit too good to be true really, he’s always lovely to everyone,” he said. Apparently their chemistry was visible at the first table read for Good Omens. “I remember Neil Gaiman saying… ‘You just saw these characters circling around each other a little bit, and sniffing each other out, and then… you’re suddenly dancing.’ And it’s been like that ever since really.”
That isn’t to say the two actors don’t have differences, but even then, they seem to complement each other. For instance, when the both of them have an issue with something, Sheen is generally the one who expresses it to the rest of the cast and crew, since he has a reputation as being “the grumpy one.”
"So [David Tennant] can say, ‘Oh, I’m sorry, it’s just Michael has a wee problem with this… it’s not me, I’m fine with it.’ I’m the attack dog that has to go on out."
You can stream both seasons of Good Omens right now on Amazon Prime Video. As for that third season, we’re still waiting on word…
