Watch the VFX breakdown for The Witcher season 3
By Dan Selcke
The third season of The Witcher came in two chunks in June and July. It adapted the book The Time of Contempt by Andrzej Sapkowski, and it was the last time that Henry Cavill appeared onscreen as lead character Geralt of Rivia. Starting in season 4, the role of Geralt will be played by Liam Hemsworth.
Cavill’s exodus has gotten the lion’s share of attention, but the season itself was a solid piece of TV. A lot of people turned in great work on these episodes. That includes RVX, which did special effects for the show.
RVX recently posted a reel breaking down some of its work on the third season, and it’s good stuff. Watch below:

Whenever I watch these sorts of things, I’m always impressed at when the VFX artists add in things you wouldn’t necessarily even know were special effects, like details in the landscape or Tissaia de Vries holding a little flower bud.
Then there are other things we probably should have figured were visual effects, like Yennefer and Ciri looking at a frozen lake that happens to have a naturally occurring bubbling fountain in the middle of it. But I guess I just don’t think of those sorts of things while watching.
All three seasons of The Witcher are available to stream right now on Netflix. The fourth should be along in 2024 or 2025.
