The other day, Disney aired the season finale of Ahsoka, the latest live-action Star Wars series to air on Disney+. This one follows the ex-Jedi Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) as she tries to prevent the brutal Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) from returning out of exile and uniting what remains of the Empire, thus kicking off another war.

Beware SPOILERS incoming in three…two…one…she fails. In the season finale, Ahsoka and her apprentice Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) and are left stranded in a distant galaxy while Thrawn jets off back to…whatever the main Star Wars galaxy is called. FarFarAway? The bad guys have won, the good guys are down for the count.

Obviously, things aren’t intended to end here. The speculation is that Star Wars head honcho Dave Filoni will continue this story in a movie rumored to be titled Heir to the Empire, named after the Star Wars novel by Timothy Zahn that introduced Thrawn back in 1991. The movie would probably also involve Din Djarin and Baby Yoda from The Mandalorian, making for a kind of Avengers-style team-up in the Star Wars universe.

But as ever with Star Wars, things are in flux. According to Deadline, which is pretty much the gold standard when it comes to getting scoops on the entertainment industry, “Ahsoka Season 2 is more of a reality in the conversation, though nothing is locked yet.”

That’s vague, but the takeaway is that Disney is considering a second season of Ahsoka, although we don’t know if they’re considering making it in addition to Filoni’s movie or in place of it. Given how often many projects have been canceled or remixed over at Lucasfilm (Rian Johnson’s  abandoned Star Wars trilogy, David Benioff and Dan Weiss’ abandoned Star Wars trilogy, Patty Jenkins’ abandoned Rogue Squadron movie, etc.), it’s impossible to say anything for sure.

Rosario Dawson is “manifesting” a second season of Star Wars: Ahsoka

One person who definitely wants another season of Ahsoka is series star Rosario Dawson. “I’m absolutely putting it out into the universe,” she told Empire. “We’re joking about it, but I’m manifesting it because I feel like I helped Dave [Filoni, Star Wars mastermind and Ahsoka Tano’s co-creator] manifest this role. So I’m ready. I’m excited. I’m willing. I got my ice-packs ready to go for Season 2 and beyond! I would not be mad at that.”

It sounds like Dawson really connected with this character. “I love how confident she is,” she said. “She’s not fearless, but she never hesitates. She is so willing, but she does have worries, she does have stress and she’s gone through a lot of anxiety. She’s had some really tough crises and traumas in her life. I really dig how complex she is. Even her moments of just finding her way, and butting heads, and being stubborn, and being wrong; having to deal with the pain of what that is when soldiers are dying under her command.”

"Getting the opportunities to embody her more and more, and collaborating with everyone as things have shifted and developed and progressed… it’s just been amazing. That same sort of excitement that I saw on people’s reaction videos [to her inaugural Mandalorian appearance] is how I keep feeling every day when I look in the mirror and get to do what I get to do… If anything, it’s only ramped up."

All eight episodes of Star Wars: Ahsoka are available to watch now on Disney+. As for what comes next…may the Force be with you. And with Disney.
