The second season of Good Omens premiered earlier this year on Amazon Prime Video to enthusiastic applause from fans, many of whom are very invested in the story of the angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and the demon Crowley (David Tennant). Can these two crazy kids make it? We’re going to need a third and final season to find out.

At the moment, we don’t know if we’re going to get one. Although showrunner Neil Gaiman has been hired to write the third season, Amazon hasn’t officially renewed the show. Speaking to The Times, Gaiman said that while he hopes to be able to “write and make Good Omens [season] three,” after that, he might be done with this whole showrunning thing.

“I’ve realized how much I don’t like showrunning. I love making stuff up. I love writing it down,” Gaiman said. After Good Omens is over, he’s looking forward to “going back to being a bloke who writes books, poems, and things.”

"I love people. I love being on set and I love the casting and the scripting. I don’t love HR. I don’t love budgets. I don’t love dealing with a new batch of execs who have their own issues about stuff. I don’t love that place where art and commerce meet and crash into each other."

Sounds above board to me.

Neil Gaiman “looking forward” to The Sandman season 2 on Netflix

Gaiman has been a famous writer for decades. In recent years has had a chance to try out showrunning as many of his works have been adapted for the screen, not just Good Omens on Amazon but also The Sandman on Netflix and American Gods on Starz.

Gaiman co-wrote the original Good Omens book — which came out in 1990 — with the late author Terry Pratchett. That’s partly why he’s been so closely attached the TV adaptation; he’s trying to do right by his co-author. He’s also involved in The Sandman but to a lesser extent, and had even less to do on American Gods. He says he’s “looking forward” to the next season of The Sandman.

TV is better for getting to adapt Neil Gaiman’s work, and if he wants to go back and make more of it, you probably won’t hear too many objections. As for Good Omens season 3, we’re still waiting on the good news.
