Vikings: Valhalla will end after upcoming third season on Netflix
By Dan Selcke
Vikings: Valhalla is a spinoff of History’s popular show Vikings. Valhalla is a prequel that stars some famous Vikings of note, including Leif Eriksson (Sam Corlett), his sister Freydis Eriksdotter (Frida Gustavsson), and Nordic prince Harald Sigurdsson (Leo Suter). The show premiered on Netflix in 2022 to solid-if-not-spectacular ratings. Netflix ordered multiple seasons at once, perhaps to avoid long gaps. Now, Variety confirms that the third season will be the show’s last.
“I am so grateful to have had three seasons to tell the stories of Leif, Harald and Freydis,” creator Jeb Stuart said in a statement. “I knew from the beginning that I wanted to show the evolution of how three of the most famous Vikings became the icons we know today and we have done just that. I hope when the audience gets to see the new season, they’ll be excited by all the new heights that we’ve taken these heroes. When we started this project 5 years ago, I worked hard with this incredible cast and crew to craft a journey that we all hoped would be satisfying.”
"Of course with real historical figures, there are always more aspects of their lives that could be explored, but it made sense story-wise for our Leif, Freydis and Harald’s voyages to end with our third season. And we really cannot wait for the fans to see the conclusion of this chapter of history."
Stuart previously said that he had “a real plan” for seasons 4, 5 and 6, so this may not be his best case scenario. But he also said that seasons 1, 2 and 3 were planned as “a block,” so I don’t think the show will end in a way that leaves fans unsatisfied.
The third and final season of Vikings: Valhalla will drop on Netflix sometime in 2024. Here’s some first-look footage:
Netflix renews Castlevania: Nocturne for season 2
Netflix has a reputation for cancelling shows left and right, but it isn’t all bad news: according to The A.V. Club, they’ve renewed the new animated series Castlevania: Nocturne for a second season barely a week after the first one dropped.
“Thanks to all of the Castlevania fans old and new for the amazing response and support!” showrunners Clive Bradley and Kevin Kolde said in a statement. “We are excited to be able to bring you more Castlevania: Nocturne and the next chapter in the rise of Richter Belmont.”
Like Castlevania before it, Castlevania: Nocturne is loosely based on the Dracula-hunting video game series. Nocturne is set during the French revolution, so there are vampires and guillotines. Everybody watch your neck.
There’s no release date for Castlevania: Nocturne season 2 as of yet.
