The second season of Good Omens is over, and the third and final season is in a state of limbo. Neil Gaiman, who wrote the original Good Omens book with Terry Pratchett decades ago, is working on season 3, but we don’t know if Amazon will actually order more episodes. Will fans ever get to see the end of the journey for star-crossed soulmates Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and Crowley (David Tennant)? Fans are desperate to know.
And in that desperation, it sounds like some of them are asking questions of Gaiman, question like: “What’s going to happen next?,” “Is this going to happen next?,” and “Wouldn’t it be neat if this happened next?” Writing on his Tumblr, Gaiman politely asked fans to please knock it off already:
"You remember how I told everyone the plot of Season 2 before it aired?(Everyone tries to remember and then shakes their heads.)That’s right. I didn’t. I spent several years going “wait and see”. And you waited and you saw.I’m not going to reveal any of the plot of Season 3, either. So there’s really no point in asking me to make things happen, or to tell me what you do or you don’t want to happen. I’m not going to."
Neil Gaiman to fans: Stop telling me your ideas for Good Omens season 3
Those are the words of a man who has been pitched one too many fanfics. Not that we’re ragging on the fans; Good Omens has a very passionate community of viewers eager to see what happens next, and in the absence of official word from Amazon about a renewal, anxiety may be running high. Now that the Hollywood writers strike is over and the actors strike is making progress, hopefully we’ll hear something soon.
In the meantime, Gaiman has assured fans that even if Amazon doesn’t renew Good Omens, he’ll write some version of it, whether that ends up being a book or a graphic novel or whatever. We’re all hoping we get more of the TV show, but at least there’s a fallback plan should the worst happen.
