5 strongest heroes (and 5 scariest villains) from Invincible season 1
Invincible season 2 is finally upon us. After more than two years since the show’s premiere in 2021, Amazon Prime’s stellar adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s Invincible comics is set to return on November 3, with four episodes airing in November and four more coming next year.
Season 1 left us with many questions. While we ponder those, let’s look back at some of the heavy hitters in this franchise are. Here the strongest heroes and the scariest villains we met in season 1 of Invincible.
MAJOR SPOILER WARNING for Invincible season 1 ahead:
Villain: Titan
Titan is a supervillain with the ability to turn his skin into a nearly impenetrable rock-like material. When we meet him, Titan is conducting relatively small-time crimes like breaking into warehouses and mopping up goons. Considering there are constant Earth-threatening events in this series, a guy like Titan murdering a roomful of people is pretty tame.
As his story progresses, we find out that Titan works for a syndicate boss named Machine Head and that he turned to a life of crime to provide for his family. Eventually, Titan gets Invincible’s attention and recruits the young superhero to help him take down Machine Head. Invincible, who stopped Titan from robbing a jewelry store a couple months prior, reluctantly agrees after hearing the extent of Machine Head’s criminal empire.
Invincible and Titan infiltrate Machine Head’s penthouse suite, but a formidable group of hired super-powered opponents are waiting for them. The pair get their butts handed to them before Titan flees the scene, leaving Invincible to get badly wounded. After the Guardians of the Globe show up to help take down the bad guys and arrest Machine Head, we see that Titan’s true motive wasn’t to take down his boss, but replace him. Now that Titan is the head of this underground criminal syndicate, I’m sure Invincible will get a chance to even the score in the future.
Hero: The Immortal
Were it not for the presence of Viltrumites on Earth, I would put The Immortal in the conversation for being the strongest hero, since he is, well… immortal. The guy can’t really die as long as all of his body parts are put back together, which is a really useful power to have. In addition to his regeneration abilities, The Immortal possesses super-human strength, durability, speed and flight. He first gained these powers thousands of years ago as an ancient Celtic warrior and has adopted many personas over the years, including a knight in King Arthur’s court and Abraham Lincoln. Yes, in this universe, The Immortal was President Abraham Lincoln.
In the first episode of season 1, The Immortal leads the Guardians of the Globe as they stop a pair of villains known as the Mauler Twins (more on them later) from infiltrating the White House and killing the President of the United States. However, The Immortal and the Guardians are all brutally murdered at the end of the first episode by Omni-Man.
In Episode 7, the Mauler Twins resurrect The Immortal in the hopes of controlling him for their own means. However, Immortal is overcome with rage over Omni-Man’s betrayal and immediately flies off to confront him. But Omni-Man again kills Immortal by ripping him in half, showing just how weak he is compared to an experienced Viltrumite.
With Immortal’s healing ability, he will undoubtedly be back for season 2; we already saw his body being reconstructed by the Global Defense Agency at the end of season 1. Hopefully he learns how to not get his guts punched out in every fight.
