The other day, The Winter King aired its tenth episode, appropriately title “Episode 10.” This was the season finale of the show, so unless MGM+ renews The Winter King for another season, we aren’t getting any more episodes for a while. There will be no Episode 11, at least not right now.

If MGM+ does decide to renew The Winter King, there’s lots more source material for the writers and producers to draw from. The Winter King is based on a trilogy of books by author Bernard Cornwell, who specializes in historical fiction. The Winter King is only the first book in his series: after that there’s Enemy of God, and the whole thing wraps up with Excalibur.

The first season of The Winter King TV show didn’t even get through the entirely of The Winter King book. That book has five parts. The show made it through Part 4, The Isle of the Dead. They still have Part 5, The Shield Wall, to go.

Is there The Winter King Episode 11?

The last chunk of The Winter King book is dedicated to dealing with Gundleus and Gorfydd, who have proven themselves less-than-reliable allies for Arthur. After that, Enemy of God heavily involves the knight Lancelot, a key figure in the Arthurian legend.

But will MGM+ actually renew The Winter King? Personally, I think it could go either way. The show doesn’t look as expensive as, say, House of the Dragon or The Rings of Power. But it doesn’t look cheap, and given that there hasn’t been a ton of buzz about the series, MGM+ may not think it worth the expense.

But only MGM+ has access to accurate viewing figures. As of this writing, we haven’t heard whether they intend to renew the show or not. We’ll wait and hope for the best.

Next. The Winter King finishes stronger than it began, but is it strong enough?. dark
