Rumor: SPOILER will appear in the first scene of House of the Dragon season 2

facebooktwitterreddit

HBO is finished filming the second season of House of the Dragon, its Game of Thrones prequel series. Members of the press have even seen a trailer! (Gimme…) For the rest of us, there’s nothing to do but wait until new episodes start airing early next summer.

In the absence of news, we’re hearing quite a few rumors about what could be on the way. For instance, we’ve heard that some important characters from George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood won’t show up in House of the Dragon season 2. And now there are juicy new ones about what to expect.

Before we go any further, a couple disclaimers: 1) There be SPOILERS below, so beware. And 2) Take these rumors with a grain of salt. Until HBO confirms this stuff, we can’t say for sure whether it’s true or not.

Okay, now on to the hot gos…

Rumor: Winterfell will appear in the first episode of House of the Dragon season 2

Both of these rumors come from the Twitter account @WtDasoiaf, aka Wake the Dragon. The first is that Winterfell — home of the Starks — will appear in the first scene of the new season:

This seems possible to me. At the end of season 1, Rhaenyra Targaryen sent her son Jaecerys Velaryon off to visit the Vale and the North, to try and win the ruling families of those regions to her cause. We expect we’ll see Cregan Stark, then the head of House Stark, in season 2. He’s reportedly played by Tom Taylor.

My one reservation about this rumor is that, in Fire & Blood, Jace visits the Vale first before moving onto Winterfell in the North. Perhaps the show skips that part of his journey, perhaps we open with a scene that doesn’t involve Jace, or perhaps this rumor isn’t accurate.

Rumor: Corlys Velaryon will sail from Driftmark in full battle armor

This next rumor also comes from Wake the Dragon: according to them, in the back half of House of the Dragon season 2, Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint) will sail forth from his home base on Driftmark dressed for battle, and that it’ll happen in an episode directed by Geeta Patel.

By our reckoning, the only episode that Patel is directing in the back half of the season is Episode 8, the finale. So if this scene does happen, it’ll happen then.

There are a few reasons why Corlys might do this. In Fire & Blood, his Velaryon fleet blockades King’s Landing, where Rhaenyra’s half-brother and rival Aegon II Targaryen sits the Iron Throne. He could be going to join the blockade. There are also a couple of big battles coming up, including one in and around King’s Landing and another called the Battle of the Gullet, which happens at sea. We’re not entirely sure what all season 2 will include, but either of those are possibilities.

Again, or the rumor could be inaccurate. We want to cover our bases there. Still, Wake the Dragon is a great account and we’ll be looking everywhere for more info as season 2 of House of the Dragon approaches.

dark. Next. House of the Dragon season 2 will premiere in “early summer”
