The Walking Dead may have ended in 2022, but this year has been one of the most successful in the franchise’s history. Between spinoffs Dead City and Daryl Dixon, things are on the upswing, and the future looks bright. Plus, looking ahead to 2024, we’ll see the return of beloved stars Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) in The Ones Who Live. What’s not to love?

As for what we can expect in terms of long-term projects, franchise boss Scott Gimple believes the end goal will be to combine all of these various offshoots. Right now, the characters are spread out all over the world. Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) are in Manhattan, while Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) is on the other side of the world in France. Presumably, the majority of the main cast remain in the Commonwealth.

“The dream would be that these shows somehow converge in some way, narratively,”  Gimple said during New York Comic-Con 2023, per Popverse. However, he prefaced these comments by confirming that nothing has been “specifically planned” yet.

If the plan is to converge all of the spinoffs, wouldn’t that just be The Walking Dead season 12? Pretty much. Gimple is sympathetic towards the idea of reviving the main series one day, but it’s definitely too soon to talk about it. “As far as the [original] show coming back? Wow. We’re already talking revivals? I’m not against it.”

The Walking Dead boss wants to “converge” all the current spinoffs

A revival wouldn’t be happening anytime soon, simply because Daryl Dixon and Dead City are returning for at least one more season apiece. And then we have The Ones Who Live arriving early in 2024. Let’s give it some time before we talk about revivals. I mean, it’s only been one year.

Currently, AMC is airing eighth and final season of Fear the Walking Dead. There’s always something going on in the Walking Dead universe.
