What if…the trailer for ‘What If…?’ season 2 dropped and you watched it now?
By Dan Selcke
Back in 2021, Marvel premiered the first season of What If…?, an animated series where every episode explores an alternate reality within the Marvel multiverse. “What If… T’Challa Became a Star-Lord?” is the title of one episode. “What If… Ultron Won?” is another. You get the idea.
Now the show is back, remixing more memorable moments from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Once again, the whole thing is overseen by the Watcher, a semi-omnipotent being voiced by Jeffrey Wright. He gets a little meta about the whole thing in the trailer for What If…? season 2 below:
The first episode of What If…? season 2 is entitled “What If… Captain Carter Fought the Hydra Stomper?” Captain Carter is the unofficial main character of the show, and the Hydra Stomper some kind of corrupted version of Steve Rogers. What if they fought? Tune in on December 22 to find out what happens.
Interestingly, new episodes of What If…? season 2 will drop at a rate of one per day, rather than one per week like the first season. I think I’m alright with that. We’re several years into the streaming wars and studios are still experimenting with new ways to release stuff. New episodes of What If…? probably aren’t serialized enough to keep folks talking between weekly releases, but might be a fun watch day after day as we all convalesce during the holiday break. We’ll find out soon enough whether this model works.
