Despite The Walking Dead ending over a year ago after 11 seasons, AMC’s beloved zombie franchise has kept on going through a slate of spinoffs. In fact, this year has been pretty exciting for the extended ‘TWD Universe’. From Negan and Maggie’s adventures around Manhattan in Dead City to Daryl Dixon’s foray to France and of course the final season of Fear the Walking Dead — fans have been treated to a lot of content!
The most exciting spinoff is yet to come. Yes, I’m talking about The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, which marks the return of fan-favorite survivors Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira). This spinoff has been in the works for many years now. A ‘Rick Grimes’ project was announced shortly after Rick’s final appearance in the original show, in the season 9 episode “What Comes After” back in 2018. Initially, it was meant to be a trilogy of movies, but those were ultimately scrapped. Now, The Ones Who Live is a six-episode limited series. Check out the teaser below:
Currently, we don’t have any plot details about The Ones Who Live. We know that the Civic Republic (CRM) will be involved; the CRM are a large alliance of communities that feature prominently in The Walking Dead: World Beyond.
At the start of the series, Rick and Michonne are split up, but she has a clue that he may be alive and out there somewhere, so she’s on a quest to find him. “It’s a really exciting story to tell,” Gurira says in the teaser. “These two people are so powerful and together it’s insane. This is some crazy love.”
“Our ambition is to have some answers,” Lincoln adds.
The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live gets premiere date!
With the conclusion of Fear the Walking Dead, that’s a wrap on walkers for 2023. It’s been a good ride, and next year may be just as insane. After many years of waiting, AMC has set a release date for The Ones Who Live, and it’s sooner than you think. The series premieres February 25, 2024. See ya’ll there!
