After waiting for what seems like forever, the 60th anniversary celebration of the Doctor Who franchise is finally here. And we’re being treated to a very exciting trilogy of specials that will see fan-favorite Tenth Doctor David Tennant return as the Fourteenth Doctor alongside his beloved companion Donna Noble (Catherine Tate).

According to classic Doctor Who star Colin Baker, who played the sixth incarnation of the Time Lord in the 1980s, the 60th anniversary specials are pretty “phenomenal.” The 80-year-old actor was invited to an early screening of the upcoming premiere.

“I was at the screening of the first episode of a couple of days ago and it’s phenomenal,” Baker told the Mirror. “It’s got all the values of Doctor Who, plus all of the technology of today. [Showrunner Russell T Davies] has done it perfectly and, if it carries on like that, the show will last forever.”

Colin Baker’s Sixth Doctor has become a cult figure. His tenure was relatively short in comparison to others, lasting from 1984 to 1986, but he made a big impression. Despite his brief stint, Baker has continued to be involved in the franchise thanks to numerous audio adventures.

“‘Old Sixie’, has been redeemed and glorified,” Baker said. “The fans, bless them, invited me to be the president of the Doctor Who Fan Club because, apparently, they like what I do on audio. They’re wonderful, I’ve met so many at conventions worldwide.”

Of course, after being involved in such a huge franchise for so long, Baker has had some odd fan interactions. “It can get a bit bizarre,” he explained, going on to detail one of the strangest interactions he’s had. “I’ve been asked to autograph an old breast implant, not one that was in situ, and in Texas once I found a young woman dressed as Captain Yates [a character from the series] lying across the threshold of my hotel room. She had a rifle beside her.”

I hope new Doctor, Ncuti Gatwa, reads this. All of this craziness is coming your way!

Doctor Who will return to our screens on November 25 for the first of its 60th-anniversary specials, airing on BBC One and Disney+. See you on the other side, folks!
