There is no new episode of Invincible tonight or tomorrow

The second season of Invincible is off and running on Amazon Prime Video, and so far, it’s as good as we could have hoped. The most recent episode — “It’s Been a While,” the fourth episode of the new season — was especially good. Omni-Man returns! More Viltrumites! What could possibly happen from here?

Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait a while to find out. Tonight, Amazon would usually drop a new episode of Invincible, but there will be none forthcoming. In fact, there are no new episodes of Invincible between now and the end of the year.

Before you start panicking, don’t worry: there are more completed episodes in the hopper. Season 2 will have a total of eight episodes before it’s all done, just like season 1 did. However, Amazon is holding back the back four until 2024. “It’s Been a While” is serving as something of a mid-season finale.

We don’t have full confirmation on exactly why Amazon isn’t airing all eight episodes in a row, but we can make an educated guess. It may have something to do with the writers and actors strikes that shut down Hollywood for a good chunk of this year. The strikes have both been resolved, but while they were running, Amazon couldn’t move forward on projects. That means it will have a thinner slate in 2024. To fill that out, we think it’s holding back some episodes of Invincible so people will have something to watch during a time when they’d originally planned to air other stuff.

We also don’t know exactly when Invincible will return for the back half of season 2, but we think we speak for all fans when we say we hope it’s early in the year. January would be nice?
