Is Furiosa a prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road?
By WiC Staff
This past weekend, Warner Bros. Discovery released the first trailer for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, directed by George Miller. This movie is a prequel to Miller’s 2015 film Mad Max: Fury Road. Watch the trailer below:
Fury Road starred Charlize Theron as Imperator Furiosa, a warrior in the service of the warlord Immortan Joe. In the new movie, we’ll meet Furiosa in her younger days when she’s living in the Green Place with the rest of the Many Mothers. She’ll be abducted from the Green Place and drawn into a conflict between rival warlords. One of them is a young Immortan Joe. The other is a warlord named Dementus, played by Thor veteran Chris Hemsworth.
Unless the movie skips forward in time at the end, we know Furiosa won’t have a happy ending. At the start of Fury Road, Furiosa is working for Immortan Joe, and she is not happy about it. At least we know her story will eventually have a happy ending.
Furiosa release date
That probably means that Dementus won’t last through the movie, since he isn’t around in Fury Road. There’s also no indication that Mad Max himself will show up in Furiosa, even though his name is in the title. Warner Bros. Discovery wants to brand this franchise, confusion bedamned.
Of course, we could all be surprised by some cameos when Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga comes out on May 24, 2024.
