Sometime next year, Outlander will return for the back half of its seventh season. After that, fans will have to endure one more Droughtlander before the premiere of season 8, after which the show will be over forever.

Outlander fans everywhere are preemptively mourning over that, but they’ve got nothing on star Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser), who recently opened up about the end of the series on Graham Norton’s Virgin Radio show, according to the Daily Record. “We’ve had fittings already and I realized it’s the last time I’ll be having fittings, I started getting emotional,” Heughan said. “It’s been incredible, it’s changed my life, it’s been an amazing journey and it’s going to be bittersweet.”

Heughan even revealed the end date for production: “We wrap at the end of the year, in October, and that will be it.”

Sam Heughan plans to steal as much as possible from the Outlander set

When Outlander finally does end for good, fans will have to find ways to mourn. Heughan already has a coping mechanism in mind: theft. “I’m going to steal as much as I can, if it’s not tied down, it’s going in the back of my car.”

In the meantime, Heughan is appearing in the miniseries The Couple Next Door, where his character and a neighbor played by Poldark star Eleanor Tomlinson have an affair. Tomlinson has also helped Heughan cope with the end of Outlander by giving him some advice. “She said ‘you’ll probably need therapy and a very strong drink’.”

The Couple Next Door is now airing on Starz in the US and Channel 4 in the UK. We don’t know exactly when Outlander will return, but it’ll be sometime in 2024, hopefully sooner rather than later.
