Tom Holland first joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Spider-Man in 2016, and has since completed a trilogy of solo movies as well as numerous appearances in larger ensemble films. The role is pretty demanding, but according to Holland, it’s much easier than the daunting idea of working outside the “Marvel Machine.”

Of course, Holland has a busy career outside of the MCU. In recent years, he’s played protagonist Nathan Drake in Uncharted (2022) and had roles in Chaos Walking, Cherry, and even TV projects like The Crowded Room. So far, no further Spider-Man projects have been announced, but it’s pretty clear that he will return as the web-slinger again. It’s just matter of time.

Turns out, Holland’s role as Danny Sullivan in The Crowded Room was an eye-opening experience. While it may not have had the huge pressure of a Marvel movie, nor the enormous budget, the process of making a TV show really took it out of him. “I got so used to the Marvel machine and the safety blanket of Spider-Man, feeling like I was protected,” Holland told The Hollywood Reporter. “So, doing something like this was incredibly scary, but because it was so scary, it was so fulfilling and so rewarding.”

The Crowded Room is now streaming on Apple TV+. Check out the trailer:

Tom Holland gets acting advice from his Marvel colleagues

Following a grueling few years of never-ending projects, Holland is taking a much-needed year away. Obviously, he’s not as used to working in a TV atmosphere as other actors, so he sought out advice from a few friends. Who are they? It’s mostly his MCU co-stars, of course:

"Zendaya is probably the most honest with me, which I love. You need that. [Robert Downey Jr.] is very honest, sometimes a little too honest — and I’ve seen Doolittle, bro. I love him obviously, and I really respect Downey’s opinion. He taught me so much and I always sing his praises and I love the guy, I admire him."

Plus, there’s Doctor Strange himself, Benedict Cumberbatch. “Benedict Cumberbatch is someone that I ask for advice a lot about acting.”

I can’t think of many better actors to surround yourself with. Talk about myriad experience!
