Over 8 million people (at the time this article was written) have viewed the official The Mandalorian and Grogu trailer. Due for theatrical release on May 22, 2026, Din Djarin and Grogu are returning, but this time in a Star Wars film.
Starring Pedro Pascal as the main character Mandalorian Din Djarin, The Mandalorian began with his mission to deliver an asset to the remnants of the Galactic Empire (unaware it was the Galactic Empire), a mission that changes his life forever. Meeting The Child (whose real name is later revealed to be Grogu), Din embarks on a new mission: to find the Jedi, Grogu's people.
After three successful seasons on Disney+ where the Mandalorian and force-sensitive child conquered villains, mended old feuds, and protected the galaxy, their time to settle on Nevarro appears to be over. But will the transition from television show to film work? Although the trailer is quick, we've compiled five things that we noticed and loved!
From the likes of character appearances to Din's new means of transport, let's dive in and discuss further!

Sigourney Weaver
The most exciting addition to the film and Star Wars lore is actress Sigourney Weaver. No stranger to the realms of science fiction (Alien franchise, Ghostbusters, Avatar), Weaver's role as a pilot of the New Republic still remains mysterious (we do not want to jump to conclusions).
But in the trailer, Mandalorian Din Djarin and Grogu pay her a visit, where Grogu's unending hunger for food is presented as comic relief. Using the force, he tries to retrieve a bowl of something tasty across the table, only for Weaver to notice and grab the food while looking to Din for possible assistance.
No words are exchanged, no information provided. The entire trailer is rather hesitant to reveal too much, which we can understand and appreciate.
All the same, we were thrilled to catch a glimpse of the Hollywood legend.

The Razor Crest
Within the first seconds of the trailer, we see The Razor Crest soaring through the sky. But as many recall, The Razor Crest, Din's primary mode of transportation, was destroyed on The Mandalorian Disney+ series (season 2, episode 6).
Thanks to Peli Motto, Din comes into the possession of an N-1 starfighter in The Book of Boba Fett Chapter 5. It was small but had a space perfect for Grogu, who at the time, was training with Luke Skywalker.
Although we can admire the smooth, unforgettably elegant style of Naboo technology, The Razor Crest is more practical. How did he obtain a new Razor Crest?
Does this mean the time for rest and relaxation on Nevarro is over for our duo?

The AT-AT fight
Admittedly, we were hoping to see more action when it came to Din taking out stormtroopers. There were rumors of an exciting and fast-moving AT-AT fight scene revealed at Star Wars Celebration earlier this year.
But footage of it has been near impossible to find, if at all. So, we figured the trailer would show us what everyone else got to see.
The only tidbit we did receive was Din and Grogu observing stormtroopers from afar, leading up to their escape from the inside of an AT-AT right as it explodes! The massive four-legged, heavily armed transport for the Galactic Empire collapses and falls off the side of a narrow, snowy cliffside, where we see others continuing forward.
We can only imagine what occurred inside, and we're craving to know more! There needs to be more scenes with Din fighting stormtroopers, period.

Zeb Orrelios
Zeb or Garazeb is a common name and face for those who know and love Star Wars Rebels. The Lasat honor guard who aided the rebellion against the Empire is hard to miss given his large, intimidating presence and purple color.
This might have been jarring for those unfamiliar with the show, considering he appears for the first time in live action format in The Mandalorian season 3, episode 5. It will be interesting to see what how involved he is in the film and especially if he comes to aid Din.
This is a small but fun impact where we get to see connections forming across several Star Wars stories.

Grogu's journey
It's no secret that The Child, Grogu, is a hit with audiences. His face and name have covered nearly every piece of merchandise, and rightfully so.
Star Wars tends to have a lot of cute characters, and when said cute character is popular, they'll want to make sure fans see them as much as possible. Throughout The Mandalorian, Grogu had endured tiny missions of his own.
In most cases, it was to save Din from unspeakable danger, creating the perfect opportunity for character development, which included exhibiting his power by using The Force. The trailer proves that Grogu is still using his powers for his own needs (moving the bowl of food without reaching or asking for it), but he's also quite resilient, and dare we say, independent.
He's swimming through murky water alone, knows his way around The Razor Crest, and hangs out with tiny Anzellan droidsmiths. But do we expect anything less?
Whether intentional or not, Din was raising Grogu before formally adopting him. Grogu sees and learns from Din, whether good or bad.
At this point, Din has been more mindful of what Grogu does, but when you are a bounty hunter and the galaxy is an endless supply of bad guys, there comes a point where you can do so much. But if we're being honest, we're proud of how far Grogu has come.
