As a girl who has always enjoyed all things Harry Potter, I’ve been on the edge of my seat since I heard that Hogwarts Legacy 2 was confirmed. And now, I can’t stop thinking about the sequel.

I played through that entire game and then some. I’m pretty sure I logged more hours than any other PS5 game (if you don’t count Grand Theft Auto V). So with the sequel officially in production, what are some things I’d want to see in the next game? Well, thankfully, I have a few suggestions.

  1. More interactions with Ghosts
  2. The option to turn dark if we want to
  3. More interactive parts of the castle
  4. Prefects and a stealth system
  5. The ability to travel to more places
  6. A relationship system

More interactions with Ghosts

While Hogwarts Legacy had scripted quests involving ghosts, we could never interact with them freely, which is such a shame.

In the Harry Potter books, the ghosts really do play an important role, one that was cut out from the films entirely. One ghost that we don’t even see in the movies is Peeves, a poltergeist that is essentially crafted from the chaos of Hogwarts and plays pranks on people.

Peeves has been cast for HBO' new Harry Potter show, so we’ll at least see him there somehow, but I would have loved to interact with him a little more in the game. We did see him, but he only really interacted with the environment and the surrounding students, never with you. It was only during quests, not freely. It would be so fun to interact more with Hogwarts' spirits in the second game.

The option to turn dark if we want to

Look, I can spam “Avada Kedavra” as much as I want, but at the end of the day, my morality in this game was still the same. I don't care if the other students have a dark legacy; I want one!

Am I ashamed of how often I used that spell in this game? Maybe a little. But I can’t deny it wasn’t fun, and I really wondered whether it would have a heavy impact on the player. But turns out there was really no morality system involved. You could use those curses and just…you know, be fine afterward.

I think that’s a big mistake. Those curses are called “Unforgivable Curses.” When you do them, you are essentially committing something unforgivable. And these students are just batting an eye while casting them. There has to be some morality scale for the player where they are at least punished for casting it so much. It would take a toll on the wizard.

More interactive parts of the castle

The biggest marketing push of this game is that you are a student at Hogwarts. So, let the player be a student at Hogwarts!

We get classes, but they’re only part of missions, and you can’t freely go to earn points in a system or to improve relationships or something else. That would be a fun thing to add. Or, if Hogwarts Legacy 2 adds more areas of the castle to explore, players would absolutely love free rein.

Hogwarts castle isn’t a small place. It’s huge. There are plenty of areas that we didn’t get to explore in the first game that could easily be explored here. And I, for one, would adore exploring more and being a student.

Prefects and a stealth system

In the Harry Potter books, prefects are some of the best students, selected to guide younger students and enforce rules. This also means that they are sometimes assigned routes to take at night to make sure students are not out past curfew.

I mean, the stealth system is just begging to be created for this. It exists in a few missions, but I'd want it there just all the time. This would make nighttime exploring so fun and would harken back to some of the best games that have stealth as a form of combat. I would love being able to sneak past a prefect and earn points for it or whatever. Or just for fun.

The ability to travel to more places

There are a few big places that you can travel to in Hogwarts Legacy, like the castle, obviously, but also Hogsmeade and the Highlands (where a lot of missions take place). But the world of Harry Potter is vast and huge. The Harry Potter films showed several different magical areas that viewers got to see, so I can only imagine what it would be like to include them in the game.

Obviously, you can’t put some random magical place in another country. Still, you could give players the option to go to the Ministry of Magic or go shopping at Diagon Alley instead of just Hogsmeade. It would make for a more open-world environment, and all they’d need to get there is Floo Powder. Boom, you’re there.

A relationship system

Okay, without being creepy, I really want a relationship simulator. Like, so badly.

Yes, these are teenagers, but let’s not forget that the Harry Potter books quite literally had SO many relationships happening at the same time that it was so messy. Harry and Ginny, Ron and Lavender, then the impossible Ron and Hermione, the slowest of slow burns ever. It makes sense in this.

It wouldn’t need to be weird or anything. It would just be a cute way for the player to connect with their own character, sort of like The Sims. And at the end of the day, this is what Hogwarts Legacy is — a simulator of being a student at Hogwarts during a certain time. It doesn’t even need to be romance. It could just be friendship points or whatever, and your outcome affects the game.

But still, that would be great. I’d love that.

If you haven’t checked out Hogwarts Legacy, it’s available on pretty much all the current and previous generation gaming systems. If you like Harry Potter, it’s a game for you.
