Filming A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 has suffered some major delays, but it's still in line for a 2027 premiere.
Showrunner Ira Parker revealed A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 will "absolutely" premiere in the first half of 2027 on HBO and HBO Max in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
We have all been assuming that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 would premiere in early 2027, but there have been a lot of things going wrong with production on the second season.
The release window news is obviously great. I know many A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms fans, myself included, were sweating it after production on the new season was delayed after, as Parker described it in the interview, "the place we chose to shoot our drought in got a once-in-a-100-year storm."
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 will likely wrap filming in August 2026
That "once-in-a-100-year storm" happened in Gran Canaria, Spain, when they were filming season 2, and it appears that caused about a two-month delay. In the interview, Parker revealed that production should have been done by now, but with everything that's happened, they still have a few more weeks left.
As Parker noted in the interview, which was published on Thursday, July 23, they still have three weeks left of shooting season 2.
"There’s been so much stopping and starting that it’s been hard to get into a real cadence," Parker said. "This has been going on too long for a six-episode season, and we still have three more weeks of shooting."
Parker also had huge praise for stars Dexter Sol Ansell, who plays Egg, and Peter Claffey, who plays Ser Dunk the Tall.
"But what’s helped is that Peter and Dexter are a year more experienced and have their thing down. So we’ve sidestepped some of the growing pains of season one."
Assuming there are no further delays, the cast and crew of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 should wrap in mid-August 2026.
Looking at how much they still have left, it's probably pretty unlikely that we'll see A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 on HBO in January like the first season. I'm guessing it will be more likely released sometime in the spring of 2027, but it really just depends on what HBO has on the books for next year. They'll definitely prioritize A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2, especially with the success of the first season and the massive success of House of the Dragon season 3, which is in the middle of its season.
There's been a lot of talk about HBO's plans for its Game of Thrones spinoffs, but there's been a commitment from HBO to try to reduce the time between seasons of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. We won't have to wait two years between seasons like we do for House of the Dragon, but it's probably not going to be under 12 months between seasons. Let's not get crazy!
