The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards are taking place this September, which means we’re due for the highly-anticipated nominations. Live from Los Angeles, previous Emmy winners Liza Colón-Zayas and Jeff Hiller presented the nominations for this year’s ceremony today, and fans of Westeros had all eyes on their screens for one reason: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

The Game of Thrones prequel, which aired its premiere season from January to February, was a total standout, impressing both diehard fans of George R.R. Martin’s universe and casual viewers alike. Applauded for its lighthearted tone and rich character moments, the series, helmed by Ira Parker, was a fresh of breath air for the franchise. Earlier this year, it was reported that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was submitted for Emmy consideration in 21 categories, and we finally know what they’ll be up for.

The series is no doubt deserving of these Emmy nominations—and more. Many fans were rallying for star Dexter Sol Ansell, who plays Aegon “Egg” Targaryen, to receive a nomination, having given a stellar performance, not just for someone of his young age. (He was 9 years old when they filmed the first season). As an integral part of the story, the actor brings a hopefulness to the character the show couldn’t have done without.

There’s also co-star Peter Claffey, who portrays Ser Duncan “Dunk” the Tall. His humility and humor is a major highlight of the show, making him easy to connect with for viewers. And beyond the great cast, the writing and directing, particularly for the episode “In the Name of the Mother,” should have been recognized by the Emmys. Despite the lighter tone of the series, it still delivers on Game of Thrones-level storytelling.

Other series that saw multiple Emmy nominations this time around include The Pitt, The Bear, Beef, The Gilded Age, The Diplomat, The Beast in Me, The Gilded Age, and more.

This year’s Emmys cover shows released during the stretch of June 1, 2025 to May 31, 2026, which means the other Game of Thrones spinoff, House of the Dragon, is not eligible for this cycle. The third season premiered on June 21, so we’ll have to wait until this time next year to see if the series scores any nominations. We’re definitely hoping the series—along with star Emma D’Arcy—get some love from the prestigious award show.

Congratulations to A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms on the awesome nominations, including the biggest one in their category, Best Drama Series!
