It's a big day in Westeros. New York Comic Con is underway right now, and as part of the weekend-long event, the next Game of Thrones spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, is held a panel to give fans a first look at the series. Creators George R.R. Martin and Ira Parker took to the stage with stars Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell, who play Ser Duncan the Tall and his diminutive squire Egg, respectively. We're live tweeting it over on X, but in the meantime, the first official teaser trailer has hit the internet!
Yes, that's right, we finally have our first good look at A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, along with its release date: Sunday, January 18, 2026 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT. Let's watch it, and then nerd out!
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a lighter take on Westeros
There's so much good stuff in this trailer it's hard to wrap my head around it all. The jousts! The jokes! The lighter music and the tourney and the dragon puppet! It's clear that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms went hard when it came to recreating the world of Westeros, and I'm so here for it.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is based on Martin's novella series The Tales of Dunk & Egg. To date there are three books: The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword, and The Mystery Knight. The first season of the show will adapt the first book, The Hedge Knight, which sees Dunk and Egg head to a grand tournament at Ashford Meadow in the Reach. I recognize an awful lot of scenes from the novella in this trailer, like the Trail of Seven, Dunk and Egg wishing on a star, and Tanselle's puppet performance. The fidelity to the text is impressive, both in terms of the events and the tone. Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon are both very heavy affairs. While there's sure to be plenty of drama in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, this trailer makes it clear that we're in for a lighter journey this time around.
Here's the official logline for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms:
A century before the events of “Game of Thrones,” two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms premieres January 18, 2026 on HBO and HBO Max. It stars Peter Claffey as Dunk, Dexter Sol Ansell as Egg, Daniel Ings as Ser Lyonel Baratheon, Bertie Carvel as Baelor Targaryen, Danny Webb as Ser Arlan of Pennytree, Sam Spruell as Maekar Targaryen, Shaun Thomas as Raymun Fossoway, Finn Bennett as Aerion Targaryen, Edward Ashley as Ser Steffon Fossoway, Tanzyn Crawford as Tanselle, Henry Ashton as Daeron Targaryen, Youssef Kerkour as Steely Pate, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor as Plummer and Daniel Monks as Ser Manfred Dondarrion.
We'll be dissecting more of the Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Comic Con panel as well as the trailer in the coming days, but for now, it's just good to have a solid release date and look at the new show. What did you think of the trailer? Let us know in the comments!
