We officially know how many episodes will be in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2!

With its first season underway and already building as a success, expectations are high for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2. It’s no shock that HBO wants this season to come fast and is filming the second season already. That has some wondering if the show will be longer than the six-episode length of season 1.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Ira Parker confirmed that season 2 will be six episodes, just like season 1. However, he added that while the scope will remain small, it won’t be quite the same look.

“It’ll still be six episodes," Parker said. "I think the scope will be same, maybe even smaller. The budget has stayed the same, but everything is more expensive due to inflation. Plus, book two takes place in a drought, so we can’t shoot exteriors in Belfast. We have to go to a sunny location with no water, which costs money — that’s a major expense that we did not have in season one. I’m having a lot of fun Season two. It’s going to be a different season, and, I hope, for the better.“

Season 1 has so far followed Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey) as he makes his way through a tourney in Westeros with his unlikely squire, Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell). Season 2 is expected to adapt "The Sworn Sword," where Dunk and Egg’s journey to a drought-stricken village puts them in the middle of a land war between nobles. That promises some new fights and turns in the relationship between Dunk and Egg. As Parker notes, it may be on a smaller scale than the first season, but it is more character-driven.

The six-episode season lengths are a good thing for the series. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is based on novellas, not full novels, so its seasons don't need as much time to bring the stories to life. It's also an aid for the storytelling, as some shows suffer having too many episodes to pad things out. Six episodes is enough to get the show across while feeling like an expanded movie more than a regular series.

It’s likely the season will also keep to the shorter runtimes of season 1, which has seemed to benefit the series. While it lacks the same scale and impact as Game of Thrones, this smaller focus makes the series flow well with the material. Thus, season 2 will hopefully be as much fun as the first, continuing A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' rise with Game of Thrones fans.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms airs Sundays on HBO MAX.
