Fans of George R.R. Martin's Westeros books and TV shows are on the edge of their seats anticipating the next HBO series set in the world of Ice and Fire, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

The upcoming series, which takes place in between Game of Thrones and its popular prequel, House of the Dragon, and is set to adapt Martin's Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms premieres on Sunday, Jan. 18 on HBO and HBO Max. The series will stand out among the previous Westeros shows by keeping its focus centered on the "small folk," as opposed to entirely telling its story from the point of view of the major ruling houses of the Seven Kingdoms.

While fans eagerly await Season 1 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, little is known about the show's second season. At a recent New York Comic Con panel about the show, Martin, along with his fellow panelists, showrunner Ira Parker and series leads Peter Claffey, who plays Ser Duncan the Tall, and Dexter Sol Ansell, set to portray Dunk's squire Egg, played coy in regards to a potential season 2. However, a crew call may provide a hint that a second season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is not only on the way, but is set to film sooner than most fans expected.

A recent tweet from the A Song of Ice and Fire focused Twitter account @westerosorg draws attention to a call for "talented crew in all departments" for an unnamed live action drama series filming in Northern Ireland in December 2025. The show is referred to as an "HETV," or high end television production. Given that the fist season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms filmed in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 2024, many fans speculate that this call may secretly be attached to the mysterious second season.

If this unknown production is, in fact, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2, this will likely mean a far quicker turnaround than most other modern TV series, including House of the Dragon. Fans waited nearly two years in between the first and second seasons of House of the Dragon, and by the time season 3 airs next summer, it will have been about two years since Season 2. This is in contrast to Game of Thrones' nearly annual releases.

The wait time between seasons of House of the Dragon could have caused the series to lose some of its momentum. Hopefully, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' release schedule will look more like Game of Thrones than House of the Dragon, allowing the show to continually cement itself in the public consciousness and become a pop culture juggernaut in the vein of Game of Thrones.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 will likely adapt Martin's second novella about Dunk and Egg

The first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is set to adapt the first of Martin's Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas, The Hedge Knight, which was published in 1998. As such, many fans expect a potential second season to bring the next Dunk and Egg story, The Sworn Sword, first published in 2003, to life.

The Sworn Sword takes place a year and a half after The Hedge Knight, following Dunk and Egg as they swear fealty to Ser Eustice Osgrey of the Reach. The story discusses the infamous Blackfyre Rebellion, and is filled to the brim with more adventure, betrayal, and epic fights.

Regardless of whether future seasons of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will serve as direct adaptations of the remaining Dunk and Egg novellas, or if they will follow their own path and tell original stories, Parker promised Martin that his show will never shift perspectives to the nobility of Westeros, with Flea Bottom-born Ser Duncan the Tall always acting as the protagonist. As such, the potential for any A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms arc not directly from Martin's novellas will stand out among HBO's Westeros-set TV shows.

Though no one not involved in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms can say for certain if season 2 really is filming in December, if the show's second season is set to shoot so soon, that makes for a fantastic sign for the yet to be released season 1.

If a second season is already ready to film, that must mean that the powers that be at HBO feel confident in the first season. Given how much A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is set to break the mold within the Westeros series, with its shift in perspective, shorter episode run times, and new composer all set to create a different tone than Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, the new series poses a risk. If a second season is already in the works, then it must mean HBO believes that risk will pay off.

Make sure to check out A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms when it airs on HBO and HBO Max on Jan. 18, 2026. Stay tuned for more news about the series.
