Even though HBO and HBO Max had a successful showing at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, with big winners like The Pitt, Hacks, The Penguin, and Somebody Somewhere coming through to represent, there was something obviously missing from this year's ceremony. What was that? A bit of fantasy from the Game of Thrones universe!

House of the Dragon obviously didn't have an eligible season prepared to compete, and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has still been awaiting an official release date after being pushed back from a release sometime this year. These days, we're getting used to long waits in between seasons of our favorite shows, but it seems like our Game of Thrones drought will be ending soon enough.

While official announcements have yet to be made about release dates for both shows (House of the Dragon season 3 hasn't even finished filming yet!), we're beginning to have a better idea about when to expect the series to premiere. Following the Emmys, HBO boss Casey Bloys finally revealed a release month for one show and teased a release window for the other!

House of the Dragon season 3 slated for early summer 2026 premiere, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms set for January

Deadline caught up with the chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max's content Casey Bloys after a number of the network and streamer's shows and stars took home Emmy gold, but the outlet made share to sneak in a number of questions about what's coming up in the near future. That includes House of the Dragon season 3 and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

According to Bloys, the House of the Dragon season 3 premiere date will "be just outside of" the 2026 window of eligibility. When is the eligibility window? Well, it ends on May 31, 2026, which means that the new season will likely arrive in June 2026. That's exciting, if not still so far away. We should also take it with a grain of salt, since things can still change as post-production begins.

In addition to teasing a release window for House of the Dragon season 3, Bloys also confirmed a release month for fellow prequel spinoff A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. The series was expected to drop sometime in 2025 but was unfortunately postponed until 2026. Thankfully, we won't have to wait too long into the new year, as Bloys shares the series premieres in January 2026.

It's time to mark our calendars for our returns to Westeros in January and June 2026! Hopefully, HBO will share much more official news in the coming weeks and months about A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and after filming wraps on House of the Dragon season 3, we'll likely also have a better idea about when the season could start rolling out on our watch lists.
