Rise, Tarnished, because Alex Garland's Elden Ring just received a major production update. Prop artist Sean Schofield—who previously worked on fantasy shows such as The Witcher and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power—published an Instagram post revealing that production has officially wrapped on A24's upcoming Elden Ring movie.
It appears Schofield has made his profile private ever since, as not only can his account no longer be found, but the original post is also hidden. Still, it was up long enough for fans to take a look at the text in the congratulatory card given to everyone who worked on the film to celebrate such a monumental milestone, which reads:
"Dear cast and crew, thank you for your incredibly hard work on Elden Ring. Your skill, dedication, and all-round professionalism were integral in bringing this unique project to life. We wish you a well-earned rest. Thank you and very best wishes, Alex, Allon, Matthew, Peter, Andrew and Charlie."
In addition to the card, the cast and crew were given keychains in the shape of a movie clapboard with Elden Ring's title on them. Furthermore, Schofield wrote an emotional caption in his original post to celebrate such a big accomplishment: "Dream job to end all dream jobs. Six solid months of blood, sweat and tears making the coolest stuff ever, working alongside the best of the best. Can't share anything else for a very long time, but I couldn’t be more proud of what we did."
Now that filming has officially wrapped on Elden Ring, A24 and director Alex Garland have done a pretty amazing job of not giving much away and crafting the film in secrecy, as just a handful of surprises made their way online ahead of time. A leaked set video did reveal that Dung Eater's execution will play a role in the movie, but yet again, the original footage was taken down from YouTube. Furthermore, a different set video suggests that actress Emma Laird will bring Queen Marika the Eternal to life.
While these two tidbits of information aren't Earth-(or ring-) shattering, they are more than enough to get a good idea of when exactly the events of A24's Elden Ring will take place. Queen Marika was famously crucified and imprisoned inside the Erdtree after shattering the Elden Ring. But since the video showcases her character in a completely different location, walking freely, it stands to reason that she hasn't been crucified yet by the events of the movie, which would also mean The Shattering hasn't taken place just yet. The fact that we'll see Dung Eater's execution also supports this idea, as this happened before the events of FromSoftware's game. This all means we could witness a prequel on the big screen.
Fans have received other small glimpses from the production of Elden Ring, including pictures of a prop statue of Marika and a series of photos that reveal the Royal Capital city of Leyndell will appear on screen. But beyond that, little is known about how A24 plans to adapt the franchise's massive lore written by game director Hidetaka Miyazaki and A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin.
A24's Elden Ring is set to be released on March 3, 2028, which will be well over a year after principal photography ended. With production wrapping so soon, it will be interesting to see if the highly anticipated film ends up being fast-tracked. But if that isn't the case, then it's safe to say that Elden Ring is well on track to hit its intended release goal.
