There's some exciting news to share for not only 3 Body Problem fans but also Game of Thrones fans! The Netflix original sci-fi fantasy series is poised to host a Game of Thrones reunion of sorts behind the camera, and it's sure to delight those who love both series.

According to What's on Netflix, Miguel Sapochnik will reunite with Game of Thrones creators and showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Sapochnik joins 3 Body Problem season 2 as a director, and it's possible he will direct more than one of the upcoming new episodes.

Game of Thrones director joins 3 Body Problem season 2

Game of Thrones fans likely know Miguel Sapochnik best for his direction on the season 5 episodes "The Gift" and "Hardhome," the season 6 episodes "Battle of the Bastards" and "The Winds of Winter," and the season 8 episodes "The Long Night" and "The Bells." Sapochnik won an Emmy Award for directing "Battle of the Bastards" and was nominated again for "The Long Night." These are some of the most beloved episodes by fans, and it's without question due in part to his work.

Sapochnik's Game of Thrones history doesn't end with his Emmy-winning directing, as he acted as co-showunner of the prequel spinoff series House of the Dragon for the first season. While he stepped down after season 1, he remains an executive producer on the hit HBO series. But now he's retreaming with the GoT showrunners and stepping back behind the camera!

Jeremy Podeswa, who directed the last two episodes of 3 Body Problem's eight-episode first season will also be back to direct in season 2. Podeswa previously directed six episode of Game of Thrones and earned an Emmy Award nomination for the season 5 episode "Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken."

Catherine Goldschmidt has also been confirmed to bring her talents as a director of photography to 3 Body Problems season 2 along with Sapochnik. Goldschmidt previously worked on shows like Doctor Who, A Discovery of Witches, House of the Dragon, and The Last of Us. She landed an Emmy Award nomination for her cinematography in the House of the Dragon episode "The Lord of the Tides."

Filming on the second season of Netflix's Emmy Award-nominated series was expected to begin in June 2025, though likely began sometime in July. Both seasons 2 and 3 are filming back-to-back, and Netflix boss Ted Sarandos recently revealed 3 Body Problem season 2 would likely release in 2026. We'll have to stay tuned for even more news and updates about the new seasons!
