Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn movie at Apple TV is gaining steam, and it's good new for fans who have been following along with the author's weekly updates about his progress. Sanderson has been penning the screenplay for Mistborn himself, and as of last week, we knew that he and the producers at Apple TV had set a meeting to discuss their notes for the film. That meeting took place around Monday, October 19, which makes this current weekly update video on Sanderson's YouTube channel the first time he's spoken about his progress since.
While Sanderson didn't go into detail about the meeting itself, he did share that he's been "working away" at his revision for the script. He put his Mistborn 2.0 screenplay at 25% completion, accounting for the entire note-bouncing process and everything else that makes a revision different from a first draft.
"This is more kind of a gut instinct because I'm doing a lot of spot fixes and things like that," he said.
Sanderson's progress on Mistborn 2.0 should pick up steam now
The biggest takeaway from this weekly update is that Sanderson is finally unleashed to start working on Mistborn 2.0 in earnest. In his October 13 weekly update video, Sanderson revealed he hadn't actually started working on the script yet for Mistborn 2.0, because he needed to wait until he and the folks at Apple hashed out all the things they thought needed to be fixed. That update saw the project at only 10% completion in Sanderson's eyes, which mainly accounted for all the behind-the-scenes emails and discussions of the script.
However, this latest update marks the first time that Sanderson is actually fully working on revisions for Mistborn 2.0, fixing what is broken and improving what he thinks can be improved. Sanderson is renowned for his steady writing pace and work ethic, so it's safe to expect that we're probably going to be getting regular updates again for his work on the Mistborn screenplay as he powers through the revisions during these final few months of 2026. After coordinating with the studio, this part of the process should feel more familiar to both Sanderson and his fans, as he buckles down with a piece of writing and does his thing.
Even though Mistborn 2.0 has been one of Sanderson's open projects that has its own place on his website's progress tracker for a while now, it's officially moving into a different phase of the process as he actually gets into revising it. Keep your eyes peeled for more from the author soon.
Sanderson's next video appearance is his annual Halloween livestream, which is scheduled to start on his YouTube channel at 6:00 p.m. MT on Saturday, October 31. He will be in costume, which always makes these livestreams a particularly fun time. I wouldn't be surprised if we learned a little bit more about Mistborn 2.0 then.
