The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 3 is set to premiere on Prime Video on November 11, and Sauron star Charlie Vickers is teasing what to expect when the fantasy show returns. The actor confirmed where the third season will pick up, as well as what that means for his character. Anyone hoping to see the stakes raised will no doubt be excited by his comments.
During an appearance at Amazon Canada Upfront (via X), Vickers teased The Rings of Power season 3 as the "most ambitious" outing to date. He spoke of the craftsmanship that goes into the series, from the sets to the costumes, but it sounds like the next chapter will ramp things up story-wise as well. According to the actor, we'll be thrust right into one of the biggest conflicts of J.R.R. Tolkien's Second Age: the War of the Elves and Sauron.
"We rejoin the show at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron," Vickers explained. "So, Sauron's evil is sort of spreading across the map. And there are a few Elven [and] Dwarven strongholds, and strongholds of Men, that Sauron is trying to snuff out. So, yeah, let's say it's a perilous moment for Middle-earth."
One of those strongholds is likely to be Rivendell, which is established at the end of The Rings of Power season 2. With Sauron making off with the Rings for Men, and the survivors of the Siege of Eregion retreating, more war is inevitable. It's good to know The Rings of Power won't make us wait to see the fallout though.
"This season his intention is to create the One Ring. [...] We have rings for the dwarves, for the elves and for men. Yet, Sauron seeks something, one ring, that I guess, will rule them all. And he will stop at nothing to achive that."#CharlieVickers #TheRingsofPower #Sauron pic.twitter.com/kFc4R7vrLR

Vickers also shared which part of season 3 he's most excited about (via X): the very turn that makes Frodo's story in The Lord of the Rings possible. The War of the Elves and Sauron will be accompanied by another crucial storyline in The Rings of Power season 3: the creation of the One Ring. It's no surprise the actor is enthusiastic about this plot, as it gives his character more drive, and thus, gives the actor more material to work with.
"In this season, Sauron, his intention is to create the One Ring," Vickers said. "So, the show is called The Rings of Power. We have Rings for the Dwarves, Rings for the Elves, Rings for Men. Yet Sauron seeks One Ring that will, I guess, rule them all. And he will stop at nothing to achieve that."

The Rings of Power season 3 could be The Lord of the Rings villain's best season yet
With The Rings of Power season 3 set to raise the stakes — and introduce the One Ring — it sounds like it could be Sauron's best season yet. Vickers is incredible as the villain, even in The Rings of Power season 1, when we don't quite know who he is. His performance is even stronger as Annatar, Sauron's charming Elven disguise in The Rings of Power season 2.
And with the mask fully off, The Rings of Power season 3 gives the star full permission to embrace the villain's darkest impulses. Combined with his obsessive pursuit of the One Ring, there's so much potential for Vickers to show off his acting prowess. It's one of the most promising elements of the coming episodes for viewers, too, and it's great to hear the actor speak of it with such passion.
