Check out the trailer for the new Game of Thrones action-adventure game, Kingsroad

Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is set during the fourth season of the TV show and sees you playing as a Northern bastard who joins the Night's Watch...but not that one.

The Game of Thrones franchise has a spotty history when it comes to video game adaptations. Telltale made a series of story-based adventure a while back that were pretty good. Beyond that it's mostly been mobile games with light strategy elements.

Game of Thrones: Kingsroad could change all that. Developed by Netmarble — also known for making games set in the Marvel and Star Wars universes — Kingsroad is an open world action-adventure game set in the aftermath of the Red Wedding. You play as the last remaining heir of House Tyre in the North. "[Y]ou will embark on a journey to restore your house’s legacy, forging alliances through trials and betrayals while navigating a realm rife with intrigue, danger, and opportunity," reads an official note from the developer. "The game’s original storyline expands on that of the legendary TV series, allowing you to forge your own path amidst the power struggles of noble houses and the looming threat of what lies beyond the Wall."

An official trailer was released last night at the Game Awards, and it looks like your character will join the Night's Watch. So you don't play as Jon Snow, but you do meet Jon Snow, as well as other characters from the TV show like Varys and Jaime Lannister. Watch the trailer above!

According to Metro, the game will feature a "manual combat system" that allows you to choose between three different systems: a knight with a longsword, a sellsword that uses two-headed axes, and an assassin with dual daggers. What little gameplay we've seen does indeed make it look like there will be proper action combat, something that's been largely missing from other Game of Thrones video games. We've also been promised "bloody and sexual scenes," which means the game is keeping pace with the show.

On the surface, this looks like the Game of Thrones video game a lot of fans have been waiting years for. The catch is that it's still a mobile-only game, which suggests it's not quite as expansive in scale as it might appear. We'll learn more when Game of Thrones: Kingsroad comes out sometime in 2025, for phones only.

Watch new trailers for Squid Game Unleashed, The Witcher 4, and more

As long as we're talking about video games based on or related to TV shows, the Game Awards had a lot to share. There's also a new battle royale game set in the Squid Game universe, timed to come out right ahead of the show's second season. Watch the trailer for that below; the team went all out to give attendees at the Game Awards a show:

Squid Game Unleashed comes out on December 17, while the second season of Squid Game TV show drops on Netflix on December 26. Merry Christmas all around.

We also got a cinematic trailer for The Witcher IV, the next entry in the celebrated action-RPG series from CD Projekt Red. This game will jump forward several years and let you play as a grown-up version of Ciri, now a full-fledged witcher after training under Geralt of Rivia in the first few games:

There's no release date for The Witcher IV yet, but it'll probably be a minute. I wouldn't be surprised with a 2026 release. The fourth season of The Witcher TV show, which is adapting the original Witcher books by Andrzej Sapkowski, comes out sometime next year.

Finally, while it's not related to a TV show (yet), we also got a trailer for a new Elden Ring game called Elden Ring Nightreign, where players team up to explore the Lands Between. It's extremely high fantasy, which is good enough for us:

Elden Ring Nightreign will come out sometime in 2025.
