There have been a few Game of Thrones video games to come out over the years, most of them mobile offerings like Game of Thrones: Conquest, a strategy game where players try to take over the Seven Kingdoms. Another adventure is coming in the form of Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, which looks to be more of an action game. Watch the trailer above!

There isn't a ton of actual gameplay in that trailer, but what's there features a lot of Jon Snow and company fighting wights, giants and White Walkers beyond the Wall. Story-wise, the trailer revolves around Jon Snow and his brothers in the Night's Watch, so Kingsroad may stick close to the story of the actual show. There's also mention of rallying the great houses to their side, so the game may expand beyond the far North even if we don't see direct evidence of that in the trailer.

Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is developed by South Korean studio Netmarble. Maybe it'll be great, but if past Game of Thrones mobile games are any indication, it'll probably be forgettable. Even when Game of Thrones was at the peak of its popularity, these games had trouble getting a foothold in the wider culture the way the show did. The most successful Game of Thrones games were the story-based adventure titles from Telltale, and those were available for other platforms:

Warner Bros. Discovery has indicated that it wants to make more video games based on Game of Thrones, but until it gives fans what I think most of them want — an expansive, elaborate single-player action-adventure game set in Westeros — I suspect that their efforts are doomed to remain obscure. Maybe I'm wrong and Game of Thrones: Kingsroad will take the world by storm. We'll find out when it comes out for iOS and Android sometime next year.
