David Tennant and Michael Sheen finish filming shortened final "season" of Good Omens

We were going to get a final season of Good Omens, but it's been cut down to one 90-minute episode.

The second season of Good Omens ended with the angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) returning to heaven as the new supreme archangel charged with laying the way for the second coming of Jesus Christ. Meanwhile, the demon Crowley (David Tennant) remained on Earth, and just after the two of them had expressed their feelings for each. The breakup was hard for fans to watch.

Also hard to watch: Neil Gaiman, who co-wrote the original Good Omens book with Terry Pratchett, going down in flames as he was accused of sexual assault. Originally, Prime Video was going to make a third and final season of Good Omens to wrap up the story. But after the Gaiman scandal broke, production on season 3 was paused, and eventually it was reworked so that we're getting one final 90-minute episode, rather than a whole season of TV.

It's anybody's guess how this final super-episode will go over, and what they had to cut. But we know they're done. According to The Knowledge, cameras stopped rolling late last week after five weeks of filming.

Beware SPOILERS for Good Omens season 3 below

There are also images from the set floating around, showing Tennant, Sheen and Derek Jacobi (Metatron) filming outside Aziraphale's bookstore. It's probably not a huge spoiler to say that Aziraphale and Crowley will have another scene together — their relationship is at the hear of the show after all — but better to use a spoiler warning just in case.

There's no release date yet set for the final season, or episode, or TV movie, or whatever it is, of Good Omens. I'm sorry for fans who are going to get less of the show than they wanted, but it might be the best they can hope for in a difficult situation. And at least the story will have an ending at a time when other projects connected to Neil Gaiman are just being straight-up cancelled.
